Why blog on Medium?
1 – Medium is one of the most popular blogging platforms with around 100 million monthly views.
Other wonderful choices would be LinkedIn, Substack, which I wrote about here, Quora is popular but has some issues, and Reddit.
2 – My question to you is, why not just use ALL the platforms? This is another BIG reason to use Medium.
In fact, did you know the same exact blog post you posted on your own website can be posted to Medium, LinkedIn, Substack, and other places?
If you do this, it’s just good practice to write. This post originally appeared on [original source here]. I usually do this at the bottom.
In all transparency, I’ve had some issues with Quora. I’ve lost 4 accounts. I don’t recommend posting any links because the risk of getting banned is very high.
In all honesty, I’ve been banned on Quora, never have posted a link, and ONLY posting helpful content. So, you can get banned anytime for any reason on Quora. That’s the truth.
Heck, you could post the content on your own website. The blog can also easily be turned into a YouTube video
3- Then embed your YouTube video into your articles and use other platforms to grow faster on others.
Oh, and Medium and X (formerly Twitter) are connected.
4 – Another benefit is that you can include links in your Medium posts to your other social media accounts, like music you market, art, or something else.
5 – You can get LOTS of views without spending any money. Not only can you get views from the search engine and the platform, but there are other ways to get views.
6- There is NO cost to starting
7- You can put affiliate links directly in the post. You just have to disclose somewhere in the post that there may be an affiliate link, and I can earn some money. I prefer to do this at the end.
Focus on Evergreen Topics
A very large tip to succeed on Medium is to create evergreen content. This means it’s still valuable years from now. Like this picture.
The picture is from the tanker named “Evergreen” blocked the Suez Canal.
By writing this evergreen content, your articles can continue to pull in traffic, readers, and affiliate sales years into the future.
Evergreen content is problems people will always have. Stay away from trends, seasonal topics.
Think tech fundamentals, not the latest gadget that might be obsolete next year.
Use attention-grabbing headlines
As with all social media platforms, the same with emails, the headline is 50% of the battle.
I learned from a class on TikTok training that when in doubt, use a number in your headline. It works with articles too.
Just look at my articles (like this one) there is a number in it.
I don’t know why they just work “better” than everything else. Maybe because the reader can see a tangible “number” benefit to consuming it.
Other ideas could include using negative wording. (trigger insecurities)
- No, without, Stop!
You could also use strategic adjectives that breathe life into the words.
- Use words like “effortless, easy, simple, unique, powerful, strange, underrated, unlimited.
- Keep in personal ( people are selfish, what’s in it for them).
- Use “You” in the headline.
- Add FOMO – I wish I knew or “you won’t believe”
Magic Formula
- Number + adjective + keyword + promise.
Example = 4 Unpopular nutrition tips for unlimited growth
Creating titles is an art and science in itself.
The main thing is to be different. Another great saying is Intrigue don’t deceive. Pique their interest, but don’t lie.
Include a Subheading
After the heading, you can include a subheading. A great tip is to treat subheadings like mini-headlines. Use 4-6 words, not too long.
The subheading also piques their interest and wants them to continue. Example from the previous headline…

First few sentences trick
The first few sentences are make or break. The purpose of the first sentence is to get someone to read the second sentence.
The purpose of the second sentence is to get someone to read the second sentence. The purpose of the third sentence (you got it! Good Job).
Another trick is to just write 1 line for the first sentence. It’s easy to consume.
You could even include a 3-dot break, which looks good. Looks like…

Include Media
When you write an article, the goal is for people to read MORE of it. One great trick is to include media in the post, such as.
- Pictures
- YouTube videos
- Giphys
- Memes
- Charts
- Naked cats (Ok, I’m joking on this part).
Most people just skim articles, so putting in different media makes your content more fun for you and the reader.
Plus, it increases the chance of them consuming more.
Oh, and the YouTube video could easily be your own. This way, Medium traffic can be used to grow your YouTube channel.
Oh, and Twitter and Medium are connected, so when you publish, you can easily publish to your Twitter account too.
Have a call to action
I’m a firm believer that nearly all pieces of content should have some type of call to action. It’s appropriate that this is at the end.
This call to action can be anything such as..
- Subscribe or follow
- Like the video if you did
- Check out a free guide for more
- View this website
Generally, the call to action helps you, the creator, but it can also help the reader. I almost think of the call to action as how you get paid. If you don’t have a call to action, then why are you creating the content?
However, if it helps the reader, I also think it’s a good idea to include the call to action where it makes sense.
You could even include more than 1 call to action if it’s appropriate and helpful.
If you write a post on 10 tips to creating a Medium post, and 1 of the tips is to have a call to action, and the best form of call to action is a landing page collecting emails.
Just so happens I created a FREE kick ass guide on this, then it’s appropriate to include it, like I’m going to do right now HERE.
You see? Easy right?
The call to action flowed into the content.
Oh, and yes, having a landing page where you collect emails is SO SO powerful because….
- It can increase your closing rate A LOT
- You can promote multiple offers in 1 niche
- Promote your other social media channels
- Increases the chance of getting accepted into programs.
- Really a TON more.
Plus, there are many free tools now, so why not?
Having a call to action lead to a landing page is the TOP way to make money online on ALL platforms.
Oh, and I almost forgot, 1 of your call to actions can even be an affiliate link where you can post it directly in the article.
Then, if someone clicks on the link and does something, maybe fills out a form, buys a product, you could earn money.
A third way to earn money is from the Medium partner program. This is earning some money from the fees from Medium members. Think of this like a bonus, almost like making money from ads from a YouTube channel or even a blog.
How to do Networking on Medium
If someone leaves a comment, it’s a great idea to comment back. I try to do this with ALL accounts, even if it’s just thanks for the comment.
Now, if you have 100 comments on your YouTube videos, then “this is a good problem to have,” you could comment back at least on the first 10 or something.
The only platform I don’t always comment back on is Reddit because if I post something and it goes south, gets thumbed down, lots of negativity and then you leave a comment, it could be bad. A post can only go to 0, but a comment can go way negative.
I hope this makes sense.
Due to your comment being attached to your post, no matter what your comment is sometimes it’s going to get thumbed down.
This actually happened to me, and it took a while to recover.
Another idea is if someone claps on one of your articles (which is like) or highlights some of your content you could copy their name, then go up to the search, find that account, and follow them.
Even better if you click on the clapping icon, it brings up a list of all the people that clapped, and then the follow button is right next to their name.

Gain followers hack
One great hack is to find a profile (could be more than 1), then find their followers and start to follow them. Some of those followers will follow you back.
I used to do this “insanely” hardcore with Twitter. I used to have 10 Twitter accounts, and it worked.
Funny story, I had Amazon in the title, and I was doing it with some of their products for affiliate marketing and the company actually wanted me to delete the article (which I did).
Amazing business plan, I think the method stopped working eventually. But, you could do something similar with Medium.
The million-dollar question is how many people can you follow? I think it’s around 100-200 people in a 24 hour period.
Commenting hack
This is a strategy that you could use, but you don’t have to. The idea is to find an account that is similar to yours in your niche.
Then find people who follow that account, comment, or cla,p and see if they have any articles.
If they do write a generic positive comment. It could be like “thank you for the article.”
Some of these people will follow you back, maybe read one of your articles and create buzz. Just keep in mind that comments are not as important as writing good content – this should be your first priority.
There is no point commenting if you don’t have any content on your account. Plus, it’s debatable how effective this strategy really is.
I do know that with Linkedin the algorithm actually takes this into account, and helps push your content if you engage with other people’s content.
Repurposing
I really believe the key to content marketing online is “repurposing.” This is a mindset meaning to get more done with less work.
I get it, you’re insanely busy.
If you take the time to write 1 article you can repurpose that same content on other platforms and into other media.
This means you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Heck, you if your hardcore you could kill 10 birds with 1 stone.
1 piece of content, can be sucked to the bone (like eating meat) to give you a week’s worth of content. I wrote an eBook on all kinds of ways this can be done and you can check it out HERE.
Conclusion
I hope this post was a little helpful. Medium is one of my favorite platforms online. I don’t know why, maybe because it’s not full of trolls, haters, trash-talkers, and negativity (yet).
Knock on wood, at least from what I know of.
There is even more to Medium, such as magazines, in which I might create content in the future.
Oh, and if you love writing, why not create your own blog? You own it, it’s peace of mind, more advertising revenue, and much more benefits.
I actually created a 10-step process to creating a blog that goes into TONS of detail, and if you’re curious, you can view the post HERE.
Bye for now.
