Why It’s a Good Idea to Consider Travel Insurance
I have a confession to make.
I HATE insurance.
However, things just happen. I’ve had SO SO much stuff get stolen and lost from traveling. I’ve gotten really sick overseas and had many plans change.
All this travel insurance helps with.
Honestly, I did not have travel insurance, and I ended up paying lots of money. I probably would have been better off with insurance.
Hospital bills and medical transport can cost A LOT, and without insurance, you’re responsible for 100% of it.
In 2026, several countries will require proof of travel insurance for entry. Current examples include:
- Argentina, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Tanzania
So travel insurance is worth looking into.
| Consider Buying If… | Consider Skipping If… |
| Your trip is non-refundable and expensive. | Your bookings are fully refundable. |
| You’re traveling internationally. | It’s a short domestic trip close to home. |
| You’re going to a remote/adventure spot. | You have a high-end premium credit card with solid built-in perks. |
| You’re a senior traveler (Medicare gap). | The cost of insurance is higher than the total trip value. |
How Ekta, Visitors coverage, and Insubuy are different
Ekta
The main difference is that Ekta is an insurance company, while Visitors coverage and Insubuy are brokers.
Ekta is the cheapest and best overseas, while Insubuy and Visitors coverage is better for the U.S.
Ekta is nice because it’s the cheapest, it’s fast – you can get a policy in 60 seconds, and it has coverage for travelers up to age 100.
They have 24/7 assistance that acts like a travel partner.
They can help you find the nearest English-speaking doctor, make deals with hospitals, and even help with family if needed.
It can cover Medical Emergencies like doctor visits and hospital stays that can cost LOTS of money
Insurance covers emergency evacuation.
Insurance often covers lost or stolen gear. Again, I have TONS of stuff stolen from me.
Insurance can also reimburse you for hotels, flights, and tours that are booked. With travel things just change, right?
There is no age limit, it’s valid in any country in the world, and you can get insurance in under 60 seconds.
Plus covers COVID-19 treatment and quarantine costs.
You can view this insurance and see if they still have a discount.

Visitors coverage
It’s a massive platform that filters TONS of plans.
You can see side by side how they all compare. It also might be better for someone who wants to visit the U.S.
Insubuy
It has great service, and you can talk to a licensed agent.
Also, it might be better for people who visit the U.S., the con is that the website is very dense with information, which can be overwhelming for a quick purchase.

7 Hidden things with travel insurance
- Buy insurance within 14 to 21 days of your trip.
If you wait till the last moment to buy insurance, and an old injury flares up, they can deny a claim, because it wasn’t a new illness.
Buying insurance 2-3 weeks before you get better benefits like pre-existing condition waivers or cancel for any reason (CFAR).
- Pay the extra 10-12% for CFAR (Cancel for any reason) means that for any reason, you can cancel and it gets refunded.
This is nice if it’s an expensive trip, and maybe your job is unpredictable. Not good if it’s a cheap trip, and maybe your flight or hotel is already refundable.
- Pre-existing condition
Insurers look back 60-180 days. If you had a doctor’s visit, a change in drugs, or symptoms, it’s considered a pre-existing condition.
- Adventure and Alcohol Exclusions
Standard insurance is for sightseeing. If you get injured or sick doing anything they think is risky, you’re not covered.
If you get food poisoning, but also are over the legal limit when you visit the hospital, they can legally deny your claim.
It’s good to read the fine print. Some common activities, even hiking above a certain altitude is not covered.
- If you travel more than 4 times a year, it’s probably better to just get an annual plan, and you will save money.
- To lower your premium, only insure the non-refundable parts of your trip (airfare and deposits).
- If travel insurance says Primary Medical Coverage, this is better. They pay the bill first! If it says second, this is a headache.
The reason the second Medical coverage is a headache is that the international medical bill gets sent to your regular home health insurance.
They deny it, and then it goes to the travel insurance. This can take 3-6 months before you get reimbursement, and it’s a hassle.
It’s good to know about.
Other ways to prevent food poisoning
Let’s be honest, you can do everything right and still get diarrhea. This is why the ultimate hack is just to strengthen your gut health.
Some places will tell you to eat more probiotics. Yes, probiotics can help, but what is better is prebiotics.
- Probiotics – These are external ‘good’ bacteria you swallow.
- Prebiotics – These are natural plant fibers that act as fuel for the good bacteria you already have.
Your gut has good bacteria that fight the bad bacteria, like a battlefield.
When you consume probiotics (like yogurt), it just adds a little bit of good bacteria to your gut (A few more soldiers).
The problem is that many die before they reach your gut.
When you consume prebiotics, it helps the good bacteria reproduce, and they grow a ton. Technically, they reproduce through binary fission (they split in two).
This is why I recommend prebiotics. You can see what type of deals Amazon has on them.
