Stack with other apps

The coolest thing with receipts is that they stack.

Meaning 1 receipt can be used with multiple apps for even more rewards and points.

The trick is you have to use a receipt within the last 14 days, and some places are more strict.

The reason they pay for this is that they are buying your consumer data.

Yes, they can be other people’s receipts, but your account might get flagged if it looks too suspicious, like 5 receipts from different states in 1 day.

Also, be careful when scanning a receipt that a friend has already scanned. 1 receipt per platform.

These are the platforms I use.

Oh, and if you use those links, they include bonus points for yourself!

In fact, I wrote a whole post on insider tips and gaming the system using 7 of the most popular apps.

Scan Before You Buy

When I first started using Ibotta, I didn’t know about this trick.

Now, I use it all the time.

Ideally, it’s good to add items to a list before grocery shopping. Usually, I don’t do this, and just buy whatever I want.

Then, when I get home, I take out my phone and open the Ibotta app.

On the search bar, there is a barcode on the far right. If you click on that, you can scan each individual item you purchased to see if you get cash back.

It’s much easier than manually typing something to look for it.

I did it yesterday and found 0.75 cents for the salsa I purchased.

The “Any Brand” Hack:

This is an amazing trick that I didn’t know about when I first started using Ibotta.

Sometimes, cash back items are just not on your receipt. You could go to the search bar and type “any.”

This will bring up cash back you can get for “any” item, like any bread or any milk.

Also, sometimes Ibotta hides those items, so it doesn’t hurt to look for the categories “what’s hot” or go to the category “any item,” if there is one.

Any items also don’t have a brand; they look generic, like “any cat food.”

Any Receipt Hack

Sometimes, Ibotta will give you cash for “any” receipt.

It could be 10 cents or 25 cents.

They are not always seen by typing in “any” in the search bar. Sometimes they are in the “bonus” or “daily goals” section.

Check the “Free After Offer” Category

There are offers that are 100% cash back.

I found it on the home page and scrolled all the way down past categories to this picture that says “did someone say free?”

Where the item is free.

Link Your Loyalty Accounts

With certain stores, you can link your loyalty account.

Ibotta will find you deals without having to take photos of your receipts.

Stack with Store Apps

Not only can you stack reward apps, but you can also stack rewards on certain stores, like Walmart Rewards.

You get the store discount and the Ibotta cash.

Bogo offers

These are really cool.

It means if you purchase 2 of the same items, you will get cash back equal to the value of 1 of them.

Sort of like buy 1 and get the second free.

I found these at the very bottom of the home screen, where it says “did someone say free?” They are mixed in with the “free after offer.”

Refer a friend

Ibotta is the king of cash back for receipts.

So, I don’t have any issues referring people.

Plus, if you refer a friend, you will get $10 when they upload a receipt, and they will get $5.

So everyone wins, right?

If you don’t have an Ibotta account and click my link and sign up, you will get a $5 bonus when you upload a receipt.

Gift Cards

When you’re about to buy groceries in the app, you can get cash back for getting a gift card to the store.

Then use that gift card to buy the groceries.

They even have other stores, like hardware stores, and tons of options where you get cash back.

Use it or Lose it

I learned this the hard way.

If an account is inactive for 6 months, they could charge a small “maintenance fee” from your balance.

Once a month, you can scan any” item or “any recipe” to keep it active.

Don’t chase bad bonuses

Ibotta is best for getting discounts on items you’re already buying.

It’s not good if you are buying something you don’t want just to save $1.

This is why I use Ibotta after I go grocery shopping, so it’s a win regardless. Plus, it’s a TON of fun, like finding easter eggs when I find something where I get cash back.

The “Midweek Magic” & “Weekend Warrior” Strategy

These are the main events.

They give you a bonus for redeeming so many items, like 3 or 5.

If you have many items to buy, you could wait until the event starts and then time them to get the bonus.

Another trick is to use the “any item,” which also counts towards the redemption number, so you get the bonus.

Other ways to make fast, legit cash

Realistic Work from Home Side Hustles That Pay Better Than Surveys

At the time of this post, gas prices are very high.

The good news is there are TONS of work-from-home jobs. Some of the jobs really kick ass. I did one where I was contacting business owners trying to get them a tax credit, and had TONS of fun.

Sadly, some work-from-home jobs are not legit, and they are bullshit.

Weeding through the bullshit and good opportunities is the hard part. The good news is this network manually vets every work-from-home job.

They even eliminate the 100% commission jobs (which I’m used to) if you want.

Plus, they even help you get the job, and they have a massive list. The bad news is it’s a subscription service.

BUT, you can always join, write down a few of your top choices, and then cancel during the free trial.

Declutter for Dollars: Where to Sell Old Stuff for Instant Cash in 2026

I sold an old sweater on eBay. The bad news is that it took 3 months, and I had to keep dropping the price. There are also some scams on the platform; in fact, I wrote a whole post on how to avoid them.

Plus, the shipping can be a hassle.

Another idea is this place.

What I like is that most people get paid within 24 hours after the device has been inspected.

They also buy everything (even if it’s broken). It’s free to create an account and see what they will give you for a used item.

They accept a massive range of gadgets in any condition. They are dedicated to helping the environment, and that feels good.

They provide a prepaid and insured shipping label at no cost to you. They also wipe the data for any device.

Passive Income 101: Combining Affiliate Marketing with Your Swagbucks Strategy

I really love affiliate marketing.

You can do it anywhere, anytime, around a busy schedule, have lots of fun, and do it in nearly any niche. Plus, earn some extra cash.

Budget-Friendly Living: Use Creative Ways to Save Money on Every Purchase

There are some really easy things that can automatically put money in your pocket.

Dryer balls sound silly, but they work.

They save 15-25% on energy cost for drying clothes, which can add up, and all you do is put some balls in the dryer.

To save 25%, it’s best to use 6 balls and not overload the dryer.

A clothing line is also amazing if the weather permits, and you can do it.

Another way that sounds silly is auto insurance.

Sadly, many auto insurance companies use AI and data to predict which customers would switch even if their rates go up slowly.

They take that money and give discounts to bring new customers in.

By shopping around every year or every two years, you force companies to give you a better price, plus it’s free to do.

Plus, small changes over the last year could lower your price drastically, but your current insurer won’t always apply those discounts.

You might not think it’s worth it, but on average, shopping can put an extra $400 to over $1,300 per year in your pocket for doing VERY little work.
