What is dropshipping? Why look into it?
Dropshipping is when you post a product online to buy. When someone buys the product, you ship the product from another place, and you pocket the difference.
Such as you list an item for $10 and then you ship the item, spending $5 from another place. The difference is $5, you would pocket minus fees and expenses.
The reason to look into it is that it’s still an amazing business plan.
There are low startup costs, it can be done almost anywhere in the world, it’s a VERY flexible schedule, and can be done anytime, plus it can be fun and you can earn good money.
A big mistake someone can make with dropshipping is starting from scratch
You don’t have to re-invent the wheel.
You don’t have to spend lots of money on your own store, designing it, hosting it, and having the perfect domain name.
Not only does this take time, money, and effort, but it’s harder to gain trust. No trust means it’s harder to get business.
A better idea is to use a website that is already trusted. Free to start, takes no effort to design, plus already gets 700 million visitors a month.
I’m talking about eBay.
Not finding good products to sell
This might be one of the biggest problems. You have to find good products to sell. They have to be inexpensive and not have a lot of competition on eBay.
Instead of manually looking through every product (that would be hard).
There is software like this one HERE, that makes it much easier! Plus, this software does more cool things, such as help make listings, so you get found.
Not making shipping free
The reason free shipping is SUCH A great idea is that it’s a competitive advantage. If someone is between 2 products and you have free shipping on yours, and the other product doesn’t, then you probably will get the sale.
You can either create free shipping each time you create a listing or make it a policy.
I found the policies by clicking on “My eBay,” and then at the bottom is “business policies.” Click on it.
On the right-hand side is a big blue button that says “create policy.” Click on that you can choose “shipping policy.”
Then fill out the policy. The title could be “free domesting shipping.” You don’t need a description, and then for shipping, a great pick is “economy shipping 1-10 days.”

For the box “buyer pays” and “each additional cost,” you can put in $0. Make sure the box below that says “offer free shipping” is checked.
At the bottom is the handling time, and this is the time it takes you to get the tracking number from the supplier. If you want to be super safe, you can choose 4-5 business days. You can update this date later.
You can choose to just ship domestically, or you can add other countries if you want, such as Europe, Canada, Germany, Japan, and anywhere else you want to ship.
If you do ship to other countries, you can choose a longer shipping time. You could click on add service and choose “economy 11-35” business days. You could also charge for international, such as $2.97

Not understand Return policies
To change the return policy, you want to click on the option “seller preferences.”
Then edit return preferences. Make sure the RNA number is checked.

Without this option, if someone returns something, eBay will automatically approve it, and the return might go to the wrong address.
Under edit “return address,” you can add the return address. Then you can put in
“Don’t send to this address, seller will provide you with one.”

Then you can give the customer the supplier’s address. You don’t want the return going to your address right?

Hopefully, this post is helping you understand how things work and the large mistakes some people make.
Forgetting about listing, staying active when you’re out of stock
The reason this is important is that your listing will get deleted, and you want it to stay active to build the sales history.
You go to “selling preferences” and click on “listing stays active.”

Right below is “buyers can see exactly how many items are left” enabled as well.
It’s going to show 1, and that is good for scarcity.
Not optimizing your listing to get more views and more sales
A great way to optimize your title is simply to use the software HERE, which I mentioned earlier. On the left, there is a tab to do SEO research on titles.
You’re looking for high sales and low competition for the keywords. You don’t want to compete against the same title as the supplier.
When it comes to the listing, you want as much important information as possible from the supplier. Then you would copy and paste into your listing.
Make sure the keywords are in your description so your listing can get found.
Remember to keep this part simple. Once you list the item, you can always change things later, too.
How to automate the shipping process for eBay
If you are doing a few sales a day, then you can easily manually go to the supplier, enter the shipping address, get the tracking number, and update eBay.
However, if you are doing lots of business, then you should automate this process so you don’t go insane. This tool HERE allows you to automate this process and makes it much easier.
Plus, if you’re doing a lot of business, there is more of a chance of you accidentally putting in the wrong information, and that is NOT good!
Convert tracking number on eBay
The tracking number on some suppliers, such as Amazon, will not work on eBay. However, you can use a tool like the one HERE, to convert that tracking number, so eBay can see it.
This way, if there is an issue, such as the buyer hasn’t received the package, you can provide the tracking number.
With some suppliers, their tracking numbers can work with eBay.
Earn more than you spend every month
This may sound like common sense, but it’s SUPER important. You HAVE to make more than what you’re paying in the fees, software costs, and any other expenses.
- 10-30% profit on each item you sell.
- Your profits should cover all expenses.
If you’re not able to make a profit, “you have to stop.” This sounds easy to do, but the reality is that it can be difficult.
I used to buy and sell domains, and on some domains, they were losing money every year in renewal fees, and I found it very difficult to drop them.
It’s like dropping them, I had to admit I made a mistake. Maybe it was my EGO.
If you are spending more money than what you’re making every month, eventually you will go out of business.
Always be learning and being consistent
The most important thing is always to be learning, always trying to improve. Being consistent is great advice as well.
What I recommend doing is figuring out a schedule. First, put on your business owner’s hat and decide when you will work and how many hours each week.
Then put on your employee’s hat and decide how many hours you will work and when.
The hard part is making them both happy.
The business owner will want to work 80 hours a week (you might burn out), the employee might want to work 1 hour a week (not enough).
The next hardest part is sticking to the schedule you set for yourself.
Conclusion
There is a lot more to dropshipping than this blog post can provide. I didn’t even talk about customer service and connecting various tools to eBay.
Hopefully, I gave you some ideas on how the business works, what to avoid, and maybe pointed you in a good direction.

Another wonderful business model you can do in your spare time, anywhere in the world, is affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is when you post a link, and if someone clicks on the link and buys something or does an action. You get paid.
I mean “does an action” such as I mentioned, some microstock platforms, and if someone signs up, uploads something, and earns money, I can get paid.
Plus, there is a way to earn money even if someone just fills out a form (like an email address).
EVEN better, you can get started with affiliate marketing without spending 1 penny and not have to worry about shipping, customer service, tracking numbers, or anything else.
